Windows XP Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Task Manager Menu Bar and Tabs Are Not Visible

Question:

My Windows Task Manager has changed for no apparent reason. It use to show:

  1. Control Buttons: namely Minimized, Maximized, and Close
  2. Menu bar :  File, Option, View, Help
  3. Tabs :  Applications, Processes, Performance, Networking, Users

Now it has the following columns instead: Image Name, User Name, CPU, Mem Usage

Answer:

It seems that your Task Manager is running in Tiny Footprint mode. Task Manager will switch to Tiny Footprint mode when you double-click the empty space in the border around the tabs. To switch Task Manager back to its typical display mode, double-click the top border of the window.
