Windows XP Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Virtual Memory is Low

Question:

Recently, I receive a warning on my taskbar that my virtual memory is too low and Windows will increase it. Also, many web sites that I visit, the images will not completely load. How can I fix this issue?

Answer:

The problem is that you do not have enough RAM (random access memory) installed. Windows first draws from your RAM, but when this runs out, it will then access your virtual memory. When even this runs low, you will start to receive the low virtual memory message. One solution is to allow Windows to increase your virtual memory, but the correct method is to install more RAM to your system.
