Outlook Express Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Messages Not Appearing
Symptom: Using Outlook Express 6.00.2800.1123.

When I access any emails or newsgroup messages the general header information appears (subject, sender, etc..), however when I click on the actual email/newsgroup messages I get an hourglass but the body of the message does not appear. This happens to pre-downloaded email as well (not just new messages).

I can see the information if I right click on the message, choose properties, details tab and click on the "Message Source..." button.

Possible Fix: One of the following methods have been known to fix the above symptom (Method 1 seems to be most common fix) :

Method 1:
Go to: Start>> Run>> Type: regsvr32 inetcomm.dll  [Enter]

Method 2:

In OE: Go to Tools>> Options>> Read>> Fonts: Change the default encoding setting to Western (ISO). And in IE: Delete the Temporary Internet Files, including all offline content.

Method 3:

http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...b;EN-US;q318378 Possible Cause: Two variants of the W32.Beagle virus will cause the symptoms described. These two variants do not contain file attachments. When the email arrives at your computer, the body contains no visible information and the mouse pointer may continue to appear in the busy (hourglass) state for an extended period of time. The email contains a hidden line of code that tells your computer to connect to the computer that the email was just sent from. Your computer is then told to download the W32.Beagle virus from that already infected computer. Once the virus is downloaded onto your computer, it installs itself and continues to propagate across the Internet by emailing itself to everyone in your address book. I highly suggest you perform a complete virus scan using updated definitions. Also, using each of the following scanners is recommended:
  • CWShredder

  • Ad-Aware

  • Spybot

All of these scanners can be downloaded from the Virus Information page for free.
