After I had used Revo Uninstaller to uninstall Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, I’ve started getting at Windows start-up the following error message: "Your SQL Server installation is either corrupt or has been tampered with (unable to load SQLBOOT.DLL). Please uninstall then re-run setup to correct this problem".
I could not understand what to “uninstall”, but tried to reinstall Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition in the hope that it will restore SQLBOOT.DLL, but that did not make the same error message to disappear at Windows start-up.
How can I get rid of that error message?

Hi Bat-Boyan and
Revo works best in "advanced" mode. That way it clears out (almost) all the Registry entries for an application. What happened in your case was that some Registry entry was causing Windows to attempt to load a non-existent file.
Re-installing did not correct it most likely because the entry is part of Windows Installer's references, and re-installing simply created a parallel reference rather than overwriting the existing one.
Therefore, I suggest that you first uninstall again with Revo in "advanced" mode, and then run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility against Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.
Do not use the WICU against any application that you want to function correctly. It is intended only for situations like yours in which something got left behind during a Windows Installer (.msi) uninstall.
If used against a currently functioning installed program, that application will fail, but all files, folders, and many Registry entries for that program will remain. It will need to be re-installed to the same directory to work again.
The Windows Installer Cleanup Utility is effective only against .msi (Windows Installer) packages.
Get it from Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
I use it rarely, but leave it installed against future need.
