windows98se;
I am trying to install new version of "BlueBeat" and I get following message-
"Setup has detected an older version of BlueBeat on your system. Please uninstall it through the Add/Remove programs control panel first and restart your system when prompted. Run setup again to install the new version of BlueBeat."
But the old program was uninstalled, and I have checked all through the files and the registry, manually, and no trace of BlueBeat exists any where on the computer. I also used an uninstall program downloaded from BlueBeat with the same result.
Is it possible that there is an hidden file? and how does one find it?
I will be thankfull for any assistance.

Hi reuven and welcome to 5 Stars.
Just visited the BlueBeat website and it would appear that you have done everything to eliviate the problem you are having. The alternative they suggest is for you to now contact their technical support.

Thank you.I did that and and I down loaded their uninstall program but it does not help. I suggested to them that I may have a program on my computer that has a similar code and BlueBeat thinks it is BlueBeat. Is it possible?

I suppose anything is possible. What was their response to your suggestion?
I note from their website that you have to be logged on as the original installer to uninstall and use the uninstaller program.
Try using the uninstaller again.
Did you use add/remove?
Look in there again and see if you can see anything in relation to BlueBeat.
The only other thing I could suggest is that you download Spybot Search&Destroy:
http://www.5starsupp...info.htm#spybot
Check for updates before running the program. A tutorial can be found under help. You can safely delete what it finds.
Do likewise with Adaware SE that can be found here:

Maybe they will find something that is causing the problem.

Bluebeat contacted me and stated their team is looking into the problem. It has occurred on a small number of computers and they advise me to wait. There are NO known viruses or trojans on my computer as I have carried out every test possible. I still think it is possible that the BlueBeat installer is being confused by other programs on my computer. That would explain the problem on the other computer with the similar problem. Thank you for your help, and I will keep you notified of any developments.

It might be a simple as an orphaned Registry entry left over from the uninstall. I suspect that the Bluebeat uninstall program might be looking for and unable to find the orphan(s).
Have you tried Regclean? You can get a copy from here:

Yes I will let you know the outcome. And I looked very carefully in the registry, even to extent of removing references to web pages.
